SEÑORITA RITA
BY PEPA DUARTE
Peru - UK based
PERFORMANCE
September 10 at 21.00 h
Duration: 45 min
Venue: MONOCHROME STUDIOS
Señorita Rita is a Latina drag performance confronting the audience with the realities of a vast majority of women in South America. Through comedy and dance, she challenges what being a Latina migrant is all about. Combining the colours and traditional folk costume from the Andes of Peru with the modern and spectacular twist of London drag, this will be an evening full of music, dance, macrame, tinder memoirs, Pachamama-yoga and top-tips to survive as an ethnic minority in a post-Brexit-apocalyptic society.
Pepa Duarte is a Peruvian actor and theatre-maker based in London, creating with both text and movement. Her one-woman show ‘Eating Myself’, supported by ACE as part of CASA Creates 2019 and FAE, International Theatre Festival of Lima, Peru 2021. Her latest show ‘Señorita Rita’ was programmed by The Pleasance for the Future Fringe Festival 2021. She is also the director of the Southwark Playhouse’s Youth Company and a drama facilitator for the Old Vic Theatre and Tender Charity.
