Ideas reﬂected in analogical reframing or ideological renaming have real consequences. The importance of identiﬁcation to the communication process lies in its power to alter the relationships we have to the rest of our world. What we recognize almost immediately in the attitudes of converts and passionate believers in all realms of life is their sense of explicit connection to a person, a group, or a vocabulary. The remaining sections of this chapter brieﬂy explore two very different but intriguing questions left unresolved by our understanding of these processes.
